STEMinist Profile: Jen Myers, Web and Front-End Designer

Jen Meyers

Jen Myers

Designer (web/interface design, front-end development)

What inspired you to pursue a career in STEM?
I started to learn HTML to make my own web pages, and that led me into getting interested in computers and technology in general and programming in particular. I’ve spent most of my career doing design-oriented web and application work, but am still working on becoming a better programmer.

What is the coolest project you have worked on and why?
I work on too many cool projects to single one out. 🙂 I have especially liked working on applications or websites that help inspire users’ creativity, though.

Role models and heroes:
I didn’t really have any role models for working with technology as I was growing up. Now, I’m inspired by all of the women I know working as programmers and building amazing applications.

Advice for future STEMinists?
Don’t give up on what you want to do and find ways of making it work, even if people tell you you can’t. Find mentors and role models, and work to be one yourself.

Favorite website or app:
Recently, it’s been Wunderlist. Lovely interface and very useful.
